Sanjoe Tom Jose - CEO Talview, presenting the results of the study
A survey “Understanding Recruitment Troubles and Trends” was conducted by Talview to understand the bottlenecks faced by recruiters in the hiring process. The findings of the study can be used to deliver solutions to the recruitment problems and challenges that are faced by the industry today.
A Questionnaire method was used to conduct this survey between July and August 2016. The questionnaire consisting of issues related to hiring was sent to nearly 500 companies. A total of 210 respondents provided information relating to their organisation’s recruitment practices. The challenges faced by them in their hiring process and the areas of improvement they are considering. The respondents were asked to rate the criteria that they would consider most important while hiring candidates.
Here's an overview into the results from research:
In-house recruitment process is used by 72% organizations
Criteria to hire was rated 4.5 out of 5 over others
Quality sourcing is a challenge among 44% of the respondents
Social Media Recruitment, Referral and Psychometric Assessments are the solutions considered for the problems
It was found in the research that current trends show that 72% of the recruiters use in-house hiring to source the best talent for their businesses. However, the research also shows that Managed Service/RPO is a small fraction today, but many are considering this as an option.
The recruiters across sectors consider sourcing quality candidates as their primary challenge. This is reflected in the importance they are attributing to social networks for hiring. However, they find issues like time to hire and cost of hire as other crucial challenges. Therefore, they have come up with few solutions for their problems like recruiting through social media and Referral hiring. These are considered as the major solutions by employers today for sourcing. But online Video Interviews and Psychometric Assessments are the most preferred screening and selection techniques.
Technology continues to evolve, and it plays an increasingly important role in the way the organisations approach talent search and the hiring process. Options like Social Recruitment, Virtual Assessments and Interviews are seen as the future of hiring process. While recruiters think Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Recruiters are important, they are unsure about how it can influence the way they recruit.
