The goal of hiring technology is to help talent acquisition and HR leaders attract, recruit, hire, upskill, and retain talent. There is no shortage of HR software, but the sheer wealth of choices has become a problem for many. Too many different solutions in use, and too few able to integrate and share data with each other. This lack of a single source of comprehensive candidate data, gathered at each stage of the hiring process, presents a major obstacle in making confident, effective talent decisions.
Late last year, Talview commissioned Aptitude Research to conduct a study on HR and Talent Acquisition trends for 2022. The results are now in. Talview and ERE presented a webinar about the resulting report, Talent Measurement for Data-Driven Hiring Decisions, hosted by Madeline Laurano, Founder, Aptitude Research. The webinar presents a snapshot of the emerging hiring landscape, post-pandemic.
Featured below are selected excerpts from the webinar, Using Data to Drive Better Hiring Decisions. A recording of the complete webinar is now available on-demand.
2022: Talent Measurement Becomes the Priority
"Talent acquisition is in a state of transformation. After two years of rapid change and an increased reliance on remote hiring, companies are facing intense pressure to fill open positions. They have been forced to rethink processes and evaluate new technologies.
'Traditional methodologies simply aren’t working.'
In our research, we looked at how talent acquisition has changed over the past year. Companies are increasing their investment in talent acquisition. They're changing how they think about processes. They're changing how they think about strategies. And they're looking at hiring, an area that's been neglected, as a huge focus for 2022.
When we asked organizations about the top hiring challenges, there were four recurring subjects:
- Losing candidates after they apply
- Adjusting to a remote world
- Sourcing and hiring quality talent
- The hiring process is too long
Organizations are looking at screening, they're looking at interviewing and assessing candidates, and they're saying we need to make a change.
Companies are looking for meaningful insights throughout the talent lifecycle with the goal of making smarter decisions around talent. They recognize the need for a consistent process, and quality data to gain deeper insights on candidates, enabling quicker, more confident, and bias-free talent decisions.
Companies are discovering they can achieve these goals through a data-driven approach to hiring with a focus on talent measurement."
The Current State of Hiring
"We're not using data to drive decisions. Too often, we don't trust the data. And we don't have all the data we need. We're using too many different solutions, or the wrong solutions, to support hiring.
'One in four companies will not reach their hiring goals in 2022.'
We’ve seen a lot of investment in hiring solutions over the past decade. But despite this investment, and all the focus on having world-class recruitment technology, companies often neglected what happens further along in the process. Companies have done a great job thinking about recruitment marketing, but traditional ATSs don't support hiring in a consistent way, in a way meant to drive better decision making.
It’s not uncommon for organizations to have invested in four different solutions to solve the complex, time-consuming issues the ATS software doesn't. But those systems typically don't integrate.
'So many different systems and platforms leads to confusion, mistakes, and overlooked details in hiring decisions.'
You could spend all the money in the world and have the best recruitment marketing function. But if your candidate has a bad interview process, if they're taking a two-hour assessment but not getting results back for two to six weeks, your candidate is going to look for another job somewhere else. And now, you've lost quality candidates. Today, too many organizations are just not able to make quick or confident hiring decisions."
The Future of Hiring is Talent Measurement
"We have to rethink the entire hiring process. How we’re going to use digital interviews and digital assessments. How we’re going to engage with candidates and make decisions in a world where a significant part of the workforce is remote.
'Talent recruitment is now remote. Interviews are remote. Hiring is remote.'
In our research, we found that one in three companies are increasing their investment in hiring technology as a response. Moving forward, we need consistency in the experience, consistency in the data, and we urgently need to resolve issues with data quality.
We have to think about developing deeper insights into candidates. About taking a 360-degree view of candidates.
- What does their performance look like?
- How can we measure learnability?
- How do we gain insights about other factors without being driven back to simply looking at resumes?
Companies are now seriously thinking about approaching hiring as one holistic process. The goal is to provide a better experience for all individuals involved in the process and improve the quality of hire."
Well, How Do We Get There?
"When you think about all the challenges we’ve talked about, the inconsistency, the frustration with technology, the frustration with data, we're simply not able to make confident decisions. We have to view hiring as a core part of talent acquisition, just like we do recruitment marketing and the ATS.
When we begin looking at the big picture, the full process, you're collecting data at all these different stages, so why not use it to better inform hiring decisions?
'We need to look at the big picture.'
Talent measurement can be defined as using all this accumulated data in the hiring process. As providing a consistent, data-driven approach that includes recruiting, screening, interviewing, and assessments to provide insights into every candidate. Using all the data to build a deeper level understanding of talent."
Post-Pandemic TA and HR Technologies
